Manicure Tips for Recently Engaged Nails
If you’ve just said yes to a very important question, then we’re sure that you’re desperate to show off your new diamond engagement ring. A recently engaged hand definitely deserves some polished fingernails but if you can’t get to the salon or you prefer the home touch, the following tips for creating the perfect post-engagement manicure should teach you all you need to show off your ring with pride.
Start with the basics
If you’re not one for painting your nails or you like things to look clean and simple, then it’s important that you master manicure basics first. Make sure that you give your hands a thorough cleanse and moisturise to keep your skin soft. Soaking your hands in some oil before cleansing is a great way to keep them soft as well as soften up your cuticles.
If your nails are yellow or discoloured as a result of using too much nail varnish, you may wish to scrub them with some baking powder and a toothbrush to give them a thorough clean.
If you’re low on funds – a 4-way buffer is all you need to shape and buff your nails. These can be picked up cheaply in beauty supply stores and chemists. Using your block, you’ll want to file the edges of your nails to give them a smooth, neat shape, making sure that you only file in one direction to stop them from weakening. You can use the buffer elements of the tool to smooth away any harsh ridges and give your nail a smooth appearance.
It’s important that you use a base coat on your nails to protect them from discoloration as well as to keep your nails strong. You should be able to apply your chosen colour in three simple strokes, starting in the centre and working your way out to the sides and then repeating with a second coat. You’ll want to apply a top coat to give your nails a glossy finish, and giving them plenty of time to dry.
When choosing a polish to show off your engagement ring, something simple and classic is all you need for an elegant look. A neutral colour like nude, baby pink or even white can really show off your ring, whilst the French manicure is also a popular choice. Try not to choose anything to bright or garish as this will detract attention from your ring.
You might want to keep a bottle of nail varnish in your handbag and a nail file for any touch ups that are required when you’re out and about. Always be sure to remove your nail varnish with a nourishing remover and to give your nails a break once in a while to grow and improve their strength.
