What You Need to Know About Getting A Ring Resized
Whether your ring was bought as a gift or your body has changed – you could need a ring resized at any time. Unless you’ve done it before, you may not know much about ring resizing, so to help you find out more information – we’ve put together some handy tips below. If you’ve bought a diamond ring and need it resized, we’ll be more than happy to help at our Hatton Garden jewellery store.
If You Need Your Ring to Be Made Smaller
Sometimes losing weight or having your ring stretch over time could mean that it needs being made smaller in order to fit again. When getting your ring made smaller, the length of the ring will be cut and then re-joined using a soldering tool in order to seal as though nothing has happened.
If Your Ring Needs to Be Made Larger
Having a ring made larger is a more complicated process than having it made smaller, however there are two options available to you when it comes to making a ring larger:
Stretching: Stretching will make the shank of the ring thinner, therefore stretching the length out in order to fit the finger. This isn’t recommended on particularly thin bands and will make the ring weaker.
Adding a Bridge: In order to make your ring larger, you can add a bridge in order to lengthen the ring without stretching the existing metal. This will involve cutting the ring (as with making it smaller) and joining it to the new bridge, soldering it all together in order to make a new ring – keeping the thickness and retaining its strength.
Depending on where and when you bought your ring, you may have to pay for a resize. Resizing engagement rings bought from our Hatton Garden jewellery store may not incur a charge whereas other jewellery items, especially those set with multiple gems may cost more as the process requires a much more skilled technique.
